Abstract: The survival of memory: a cosmopolitics of harm and justice in the Indigenous movement of Cauca, Colombia

This article analyses the spiritual repertoires of memory developed within the territories of the Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca (CRIC) in the context of the harms caused by the protracted violence of the Colombian armed conflict. Based on multi-sited ethnographic research, the article examines the spiritual practices that shape this Indigenous memory as expressions of a political cosmology seeking to preserve and repair the network of relationships that constitute Indigenous territory. The notion of pervivencia is analysed as an active and relational affirmation of forms of life specific to the Indigenous world, in which the territory acts as a subject of memory and an agent of re-harmonisation. The article concludes that the Indigenous memory analysed here constitutes a living, relational and territorial repertoire that cannot be fully represented either by the categories of law or by the frameworks through which memory is understood within the established system of transitional justice.
